I've sworn off features for the last 3 weeks and I'm carefully weeding out bugs, buffer overruns, crashes and threading issues from the codebase. So far it's showing signs of making the software (esp Scribe) more stable. There is a new build for Win32 and Linux online, and I'm hoping it's going to run well.

In particular the Linux build is a quantum leap ahead of the previous build (at least for me on XFree 4.3.0). I've started using it for my day to day client which is an amazing trial by fire. In some places the Linux build is much faster than the Win32 and in others the Win32 build is much quicker. Each OS has it's strengths and weaknesses. I'm pleasantly surprised at how quick Scribe now runs on local X. Very nice!

Also I've released i.Ftp for Linux. It compiled and ran with minor modifications and fixes. I've ported i.Mage as well, but it needs somewhat more work to be usable.

The number of Linux related Lgi fixes accumulating for the next release is huge. Lgi can now really lay claim to be an XP GUI library again after the BeOS port was depreciated. The whole Linux port is now approaching some semblance of stability and function. I've finally decided on the LGPL for licencing Lgi because on the whole I agree with the notion that proprietry software has had it's day. Initially I assumed that a BSDish licence would be the most 'free' (liberty) licence available and I should use that but in retrospect, it helps the proprietry world more than the free world by offering high quality software with no requirement for contributing back. And I added my own little segment to protect the software against patent abuse, which I thought was kinda nifty (patents SUCK). But now I'm getting serious, and Lgi is LGPL from here on in. However I disagree with the concept that just because you link with software of a different licence you should have to adopt that licence as it is with straight GPL. This causes all sorts of grey areas when the OS is GPL and the application running on it is not.
