Hi there, nice product,

Accidentally forgot to set my IMAP account setting to "leave mail on server" and all mail was downloaded into i.Scribe.

Is there a way to put the email back in the inbox on the server?

Thanks,

Jim

Copy and paste from your local inbox should work ok.

hi,

i presume you mean copy it to the imap folders that appear below "mail" and its subfolders?

i would try that, but the imap root folder appears very briefly then goes away again whenever i click "receive".

thanks for your time

Which IMAP protocol settings are you using?

Can you post a connection log? (status panel -> click account -> log tab -> right click -> copy)

IMAP4(fetch) as IMAP4(full) didn't do anything
All other settings unchanged

That log looks like a IMAP(fetch) log, what does it do in IMAP(full) mode? (log wise)

Thanks for spending time on this.

Thats just freakin weird, in the IMAP(fetch) mode the login command works fine, then in IMAP(full) mode the exact same command fails. Unless of course the password somehow got entered incorrectly the second time.

ah, and that's fixed the problem!

i hadn't ticked the "save password" button, and so every time i tried to connect with IMAP4(fetch) it asked me my password.

i'd just assumed that IMAP4(full) was having some big failure because it didn'ty even ask for the password.

so i've just gone and ticked the box and typed in my password in the options dialog, tried to log in using IMAP4(full), and it worked fine!

unfortunately, i've just lost all my mail.

i tried to copy over the messages from local inbox to inbox on the imap server. everything disappeared from the local folder, but nothing reappeared on the server.

after a couple of minutes i quit i.scribe, and killed the connection to the server.

the mail seems to still be in my .mail2 folder (i.e. it's still 3.5 Mb).

please help (again)

I would try using the recovery software on the folders, see the section "recovering folders" at the end.

And don't compact the folders till you do. Please.

Then once you have something recovered _copy_ the messages (ctrl-c, select new folder, ctrl-v)... and wait... it'll take a while to transfer all the messages. And just cause they don't show up on the server straight away doesn't mean they won't ever. Better yet, get a tool to watch the bandwidth on your connect and you will know when it's finished.

right, have done the steps you've suggested using the last stable version of iscribe (1.87).

all seems to be well - i have lots of mail back on my server's inbox, think i got all of it.

thanks for your help.

i've another quick question:

my mailserver is squirrelmail, and folders are set up as /INBOX; /mail/Sent; /mail/Drafts etc.

iScribe is quite happy to read INBOX, but just shows a grey icon next to mail and I can't get to the subfolders.

any ideas?
