I just downloaded Scribe beta 46 and installed it on top of my beta 45 installation. Trying to start Scribe I then got launched into MS VC++ 2008 redistributable and was invited to either repair or uninstall VC++ 2008. I tried "repair," and upon again trying to start up Scribe got a familiar "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. ..." error message.

I went through something similar upgrading to beta 45 and am having trouble finding the download link on this site with the correct version of VC++. I would appreciate it being posted on this forum for future (and current) reference.

I found vcredist_vc9x32.exe in the http://www.memecode.com/scribe/data/ directory, which was the same executable which was downloaded and executed in the process of installing beta 46. This is a new VC++ redistributable vs. what beta 45 used -- vcredist_x86.exe.

Choosing the "Repair ..." sequence did not leave me with a working copy of beta 46. I could try the "Uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable from this computer" option, and then reinstall it and see if that works.

v2.00 beta 46 onwards uses: http://www.memecode.com/scribe/data/vcredist_vc9x32.exe
earlier builds use: http://www.memecode.com/scribe/data/vcredist_x86.exe (which is the vc8 redistributable)

If you copy of Scribe is giving the side by side error then I think the only way forward is uninstalling the visual studio 2008 redistributable, then either re-installing Scribe (which will pull down and install the vs2008 redistributable) or manually install it form the above URL.

If it still doesn't work then it is beyond my ability to fix. And it's likely there are more serious things wrong with that particular windows install than not being able to run Scribe. I'm testing clean installs on XP, Win7 and Win8.

I uninstalled every vestige of every copy of the VC8 redistributable already on my machine, then installed the version from this site ... and that worked.
