FileSearch

About

FileSearch is designed to create a static index of files for fast searching and filtering. A lot of file search tools try and do "too much". By keeping their indexes constantly up to date, and searching inside files... or skipping over folders they think aren't "important" enough. Well FileSearch does exactly WHAT you tell it to do, exactly WHEN you ask it to build an index or find something.

When it's not running there is no deamon in the background sucking your computer resources dry. May spotlight rest in peace. It's great for large systems of files that don't change much week to week. Which is just what I'm looking for. On a SSD based system rebuilding the index is FAST. On old HDD's... um... not so much.

  • Linux: Can't press 'e' in the search field (The 'Escape' shortcut for the File->Stop menu was getting incorrectly truncated to 'E').
  • Linux: Fixed the time since index message to be correct.
  • Linux: Fixed the title on the window to include the current version.
  • Linux/Mac: Added icons for the results. Currently just file vs folder, but better than nothing.
